GSBC Summer Meeting

Have you dreamed of writing your family's history—either for your own family, society library, or wider commercial publication?

Our July meeting will feature GSBC Member, Jack Dabney, on his genealogical research and his two-year journey to publishing his family's story. We will start off the meeting by watching a videotaped conversation with Dabney about his experiences. The video will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with Dabney about researching his family and writing and publishing their story.

Program starts at 7pm. Map will be on display from about 6pm (auditorium or Bolger heritage Center, TBD). Free, all are welcome.

Also, join us before the program to view an original 2.5x5.5-foot 1899 map of Manchester Township,* Passaic County, NJ, complete with land-owner names!

This map was purchased from eBay by a GSBC Trustee and is currently being scanned in high-resolution for the GSBC collection. The original map (in great condition but needs a little conservation) will be donated to the New Jersey State Archives at the end of the summer. So, if you have ancestors in Manchester Township* (or in the vicinity)—or just like the artistry of old maps and original documents—come check it out before it heads to Trenton!

* Manchester Township was formed from Saddle River Township, Bergen Co., and set off to the newly formed Passaic County in 1837. Before the date of this map (1899), parts of Manchester became Wayne (1847), Paterson City (1854 and 1855), and Totowa and Hawthorne Boroughs (1898). After the date of this map, parts were ceded to Prospect Park and North Haledon Boroughs (1901), with the reminder becoming Haledon Borough in 1908.
