William's obituary, published in the Paterson Intelligencer on 18 Jan 1854, states he was from Glammis, Forfarshire, Scotland.
J Boyle, III has a carpenter's level and transit made by Mathieson and Son, Glasgow and Edinburgh. This level was given to him by Clara Boyle (Mumsy). Joe thought that Mumsy said it was Poppy Boyle's level, and it was stored away in the basement until 1993. Upon taking the level out of a basement cabinet, an inscribed name, Wm High, was noted on the top of the level. The name was never noted until 1993 since it had never been examined closely and had been stored away for about 30 years. Inscribed in the metal on the top of the level is Wm High, and scratched nearby are the initials Wx H. Scratched into the wood on the side is 'Wm High 1841.Two days after finding the level we went to the State Archives in Trenton where the marriage record of David and Catherine was found. This gives Catherine's parents as William High and Cecelia. Apparently this is g.g.grandfather William's level.
