Cornelia Garnier Kruger b. 1 Jul 1876, d. 5 May 1933

Milton Kirkpatrick and Cornelia Garnier Kruger lived at Randolph Avenue, East Rutherford, NJ. Having no birth certificate for Milton Kirkpatrick, I must rely on family history to pinpoint his birth at 12 Aug 1869 in Nyack, Rockland County, New York. His marriage return of the State of New Jersey lists his parents as William Kirkpatrick and Emma Warner, both born in America. The newspaper of the wedding lists him as being formerly of Nyack.
Attempts to locate additional information on Milton Kirkpatrick were fruitless except for one printout of members of the Nyack Baptist Church which lists both Maggie and Milton KIRK. A letter from the church states he was baptized 23 Mar 1884, and excluded 2 Jun 1891 for neglect of covenant obligation.
Milton Kirkpatrick married Cornelia Kruger at her residence 37 Randolph Avenue 24 June 1896. His occupation was a 'shirt cutter'. Family history had him working at Wragge Shirt Company in New York. Many family quilts and scraps attest to the scraps of shirt material.
Two children were born of this marriage: Harriet Rita, born 24 Jun 1898; Marguerite Louise, 11 Aug 1902. Both were born in East Rutherford, NJ.
Milton Kirkpatricksucc umbed to a pneumonia-like illness at his home 287 Randolph Avenue, 20 Jan 1923. He had been a resident of East Rutherford for 30 years, and was buried in Hillside Cemetary.
Milton Kirkpatrick's wife was Cornelia Garnier Kruger, daughter of Louis Kruger and Harriet Fitz Randolph. She was born in East Rutherford at the family home on Randolph Avenue. Her will dated 15 Nov. 1923 listed her residence as 287 Randolph Ave. and was signed by her brother Louis 283 Randolph Ave. Cornelia Kruger died at 187 Wood Street (home of daughter Harriet), Rutherford, NJ.at 57 years, 10 months. Her death 5 May 1933 was from Cerebral Apoplexy and Arterio schlerosis. Her birthdate listed on the death certificate was 1 july 1875. She was buried 8 May in Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst, NJ.1

William Washington Kirkpatrick appeared on the census of 1850 at Nyack, Rockland County, NY. He was listed as 21 (probably an error) and a painter. His wife, Margaret was 22. Children were Charles, 4; Margaret, 2 and William 10 mos. (page 1, line 36).1 He appeared on the census of 1860 at Nyack, NY. William is 37, a painter; wife Emma L. as 30; and children Charles, 14; William, 10; Alonzo, 8; Margaret, 2; and Mary 10 mos. He and Emma L Warner appeared on the census of 1870 at Gedney Street, Nyack, NY. William KIRKPATRICK, age 47, head of the house, a painter, with wife Emma, age 41. Children listed are William, 20; Margaret, 12; Evaline, 9; Henry, 5 and Milton, age 10 months. William Washington Kirkpatrick and Emma L Warner appeared on the census of 1880 at Nyack, NY. William is 57, a painter; Emma, 50; Margaret, 22, sewing machine operator; Mary 20; Eva, 19, Henry, 15; Milton 11; Grace, 5 and father-in-law Thomas Warner, age 78. The address of the family is Gedney Street, verified by a letter from a cousin stating the family lived on Gedney Street. Further, a map of the City of Nyack places the family home on Gedney Street (on the Hudson River) a little north of where High Street meets Gedney. NOTE: Find-a-grave has 6 Jan 1892 as death date for both William and Emma! (no pictures.) Kirkpatrick File and Holmes Pedigree have Emma's death date as 28 Nov 1892. The 1850 census has a Margaret as wife, a Margaret Ann Kirkpatrick is listed in Oak Hill cemetery with date 9 Nov 1827-12 Mar 1855. This could be the first wife.4,5,6
Land deeds list the residential property as being on Gedney Street. In 1875, the land had belonged to Margaret KIRKPATRICK and was bequeathed to Charles and William and their wives. The land was bounded by Gedney Street, the Hudson River, Hannah Coddington. Also, the gas company. The land was then deeded to Emma KIRKPATRICk in 1875 for $1050. In 1881, Thomas T. V. Warner deeded land to Emma L. KIRKPATRICK on the northerly side of Elm Street adjoining lands of John Doyle and Ann TenEyck. This land was eventually sold to Cornelia KIRKPATRICK in 1896 for $1.00.1
Information in the Nyack Library states that William KIRKPATRICK was born in Newburgh and had lived in Nyack for 53 years before his death in 1894. He was a painter and foreman for DD & T Smith. Lists sons as Charles, William, Henry and Milton. Charter member of Mazeppa and a lifelong Democrat who switched to Republican in the Blaine-Cleveland election. His Certificate of Death states he was 72 years, 5 days, born in Newburgh, son of George and Mary Kirkpatrick. He died the 9th of October 1894 of a cerebral hemorrhage. His obituary states he died at his home on Gedney Street and had been sick for years with consumption. He was born in Newburgh, the last of ten children. Children listed as Charles and William (first wife); Mrs. C. Z Westervelt, Paterson; Mrs. W. R. Lewis; Henry, Milton, Margaret and Grace all of Nyack. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetary, Nyack. His wife, Emma L. Warner, died 6 Jan 1892 and is also buried in Oak Hill.1
The book 'So that all May Remember' lists Emma L. Kirkpatrick (Warner) as being born 19 Oct 1829, died 6 Jan 1892 at 62 years, 2 months and 18 days. (Wife of William W.) Margaret, wife of William was born about 9 Nov 1827 and died 12 Mar 1855 at age 27 years, 4 mos, 3 days. William W. Kirkpatrick was born 5 Oct 1822, died 6 Jan 1892 at age 89 years, 3 mos, 1 day.1
While in New City June 1996, I found a Surrogate's paper on James Kilpatrick listing wife as Elizabeth (signed with an X). Children listed were Hiram, Eliza wife of William Allison, Mary wife of Patrick Hughes, James G Kilpatrick, Marquis Kilpatrick, Gilbert Kilpatrick and William Kilpatrick. Later, Catherine Kirkpatrick, widow of Gilbert Kirkpatrick, filed in Surrogate court naming the family as Catherine Margaret Kirkpatrick (widow), Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, Marquis Kirkpatrick in the town of Haverstraw, James Harvey Kirkpatrick and William Kirkpatrick in Nyack in said county of Rockland, Hiram Kirkpatrick who resides in New Jersey and Mary wife of Patrick Hughes who resides in the state of PA (Gilbert deceased 27 Sep 1848). Given that William Kirkpatrick's death certificate information was given by a friend, I believe William's father was James as stated in the legal paper. Bears looking into.1

Theunis Jacobse Klaarwater

M, b. 1624, d. 1715
FatherJacob Klaarwater
Theunis Jacobse Klaarwater was born in 1624 at Baarn, The Netherlands. He married Maria Hansen, daughter of Hans Vos and Geertje Seltens.1 He died in 1715. He was buried in 1715 in Bontecoe, in the orchard of his farm.

Family

Children
Theunis Jacobse Klaarwater lived in 1709 at Shawangunk, NY.
Theunis was a graduate of Univ. of Leyden. He was a soldier in Holland. He was exiled from Holland by Phillip 2nd of Spain for religious reasons. He immigrated to New Amsterdam, later moved to Kingston then to Bontecoe. With others, he was awarded a 4000 acre patent in 1709 by Queen Anne in Ulster Co. He was a Huguenot and one of the founders of the Ref. D. Ch. in Kingston. Later he attended the church at New Paltz.
Other sources have him coming to New Netherland about 1656 on the 'Otter' with Van Renselaer. If that is so, his son Jacob cannot have been born in The Netherlands (as the Deyo File suggests). While this website has a lot of transcriptions, it has Theunis as a son of Anthony Jacobs and Besseltgen Wouters. As Theunis' patronymic is Jacobs, and he does not name any children either Anthony or Besseltgen, this seems unlikely.2,1,3
The Klarwaters were one of the most ancient families of Holland. For centuries they owned and still (1909) own estates at Baarn, near Rotterdam. Its members were among the founders of the Dutch Republic and achieved distinction in the wars of Holland. The Klaarwaters fought under William the Silent and John of Barneveldt.
Theunis Jacobsen Clearwater , the founder of the Clearwater family in America was born at Baarn.4
NOTE: Hasbrouck File had ? Klaarwater, the mother of Agatha Nicol, as a daughter of Theunis Jacobse Klaarwater. Theunis' son Jacob is b. c. 1663, and Elsje prob. c. 1675-80; Agatha is prob. b. 1650-1655, which would give a birthdate for her mother of 1630-35, enough to be a sister of Theunis.5,3 Name variation: Theunis Clearwater.
