     Peter Turner was born on 14 March 1794 at Putnam, NY.¹ He married (1) Mary Ann Galloway, daughter of James Shildren Galloway and Miriam Archer, on 16 November 1816. Peter Turner married (2) an unknown woman in November 1866. He died on 16 October 1875 at Turner's Village, NY.

     Peter founded a village which served the Erie Railroad and became an influential business center.

     Sara Turneur was baptized on 3 January 1753.¹ She married John Stagg, son of Cornelius Stagg and Antjie Christie.¹

     Aaron A Turse was born on 29 August 1852 at Werimus, Bergen County, NJ, (now Hillsdale, NJ.)² He married Sarah A Straut, daughter of Abram J Straut and Elizabeth Jane Litchult, on 1 January 1873 at Westwood, Bergen County, NJ.³ Aaron A Turse died on 2 November 1934 at 530 4th Ave, Westwood, NJ.⁴ He was buried on 6 November 1934 in Westwood Cemetery in Westwood.

     Aaron A Turse was a Constable, County Sheriff's Office, Hackensack, Bergen, and a house painter. The first Marshall of Westwood Borough, he also served as a volunteer fireman, a member of the Board of Education, and as a member of the Board of Health. In his later years he was a deputy sheriff, and served at the court house in Hackensack. Apparently when young, he also worked as a painter (at the age of 24 according to the 1880 census). The 1880 census has him living in Washington Township.

He was active in the community and well known locally, and often included in local news. One of the more unusual stories of the times, in October 1885, Westwood was struck by a forceful tornado. It tore up the new school house for which the village had just paid $5,000, crushing it and carrying off all but the floor timbers. Aaron saw the roof of the schoolhouse go, and grabbed two children and Sarah and ran into the yard to cling to a large tree in the yard. The village church was torn from its foundations and lifted 30 feet into the air. Barns were leveled and houses destroyed. The tornado tore a path about 200 feet wide and nearly two miles long.

Shortly after the official incorporation of the town as the Borough of Westwood on May 8, 1894, Mayor Isaac D. Bogert appointed the first two true law enforcement Officers in the newly formed Borough. Aaron Tuers and Genest Housman were officially appointed as Marshals and tasked primarily with the enforcement of a bicycle ordinance. Their compensation was $2.00 of each $5.00 fine levied against offenders. This system of compensation was certainly not perfect and sometimes required improvisation on behalf of the original Mayor and Council. On one occasion, when two men were found cycling on the sidewalks and did not have money to pay the fines, one of their bicycles was confiscated. The record does not indicated whether the Marshals or the treasury suffered the loss when the Mayor was unable to sell the bicycle for more than $8.00 to cover the two fines a few months later. He was living with his wife, Mary, in Westwood, NJ at the time of registration. He is described as tall and slender with black eyes and black hair. The Hackensack Republican 1899-7-20, Pg. 3 Col. 9 has a local notice for Birth of a daughter born to Aaron Turse, Jr in Westwood.

     Claude Abram Turse was born on 24 December 1899.² He married Elizabeth Henrietta Hubrath on 14 September 1920 at Trinity Church, Hoboken, NJ.² Claude Abram Turse died on 5 November 1961 at Westwood, Bergen County, NJ, date may be 5 May - unverified.³ He was buried in Westwood Cemetery in Westwood.

     WWI Draft Registration Card, Serial Number 2358 lists Grove Street, Westwood, NJ as his address at the time of registration. This is Sanford's address. He describes his occupation as Mariner, employed by United States Shipping Board, 172 Border Street, East Boston, MA. His nearest relative is listed as Mandy Bevins (his mother remarried to William Bevan after Abram's death), also living at Grove Street, Westwood, NJ. He is described as medium build, with grey eyes, and dark brown hair.

     Ellsworth James Turse Sr. was born on 27 April 1903 at Pearl River, Rockland County, NY. He married (1) Caroline Catherine Granger, daughter of George Francis Granger Sr. and Caroline (Carrie) Federlichner, on 1 June 1922. Ellsworth James Turse Sr. was buried in August 1980 in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Dunedin. He died on 15 August 1980 at Dunedin, FL.

     He went to Westwood HS, and attended business school. Ellsworth James Turse Sr. was a ticket agent, and travel agent with Walker Travel Agency in Ridgewood, NJ 1950-1965. They were members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Montvale. He was Episcopal.
     Early in life, as a 16 year-old, Ellsworth was working as a tabulator for Western Electric. He started out his career in the travel business as a ticket clerk with the Erie Railroad. Soon after, he found his way to Clyde Mallory Line, a shipping company, and was employed there until World War II. Jim's sister, Joan, remembers one highlight of her Dad's employment with Clyde Mallory as taking a sea cruise that took her to Cuba. In his later years, Ellsworth returned to Cuba soon after Fidel Castro took over, and, with a delegation from the American Society of Travel Agents, met with Raoul Castro to discuss reopening tourism from the United States to Cuba. During the war he worked at Wright Aeronautical in Paterson, NJ in administration. He and Bill Walker became friends, and soon after the war the two of them joined Bill's father in transitioning a small local travel agency operating out of an office in an old house in Ridgewood, New Jersey, to a successful, full service agency that was located across from the Ridgewood train station for many years. Ellsworth served as Vice President of the agency, and opened an office in Westwood, New Jersey in the late 1950's in an effort to expand the agency's market share. The Westwood office never quite enjoyed the success expected, and soon after Ellsworth retired to Florida in 1965, the agency was closed. Ellsworth retired when he could because of poor health prompted by vision problems that he had suffered with all of his life since childhood. He had scarlet fever as a young boy and his vision was effected by the illness. In 1964 he underwent a double cataract operation that left his vision further impaired. At that point he made the decision to retire and move to Florida. To that end, he and his second wife, Inez, purchased a lot on Orange Avenue in New Port Richey, Florida, not far from his former brother-in-law, George Granger. Ellsworth and Inez could never quite find the right place to live in Florida, and for a short while tried living in Westwood, NJ, where Ellsworth had grown up. They moved several times in the Clearwater area, and at the time of his death he and Inez were living temporarily in a mobile home as they were planning for construction of a new home. Ellsworth died of complications from surgery for brain cancer.

     Garrett C Turse was born on 21 July 1874. He married Addie Kent, daughter of Albert C Kent and Maria Margaret Friend.² Garrett C Turse died in 1945 at Westwood, Bergen County, NJ. He was buried on 9 April 1945 in Westwood Cemetery in Westwood, Block 49, Lot 5E/Grave 1.³

     Jacob Young Turse was born on 6 July 1821.^3,4,5 He was baptized on 7 October 1821 in the DRC at Paramus, NJ.³ He married Caroline Westervelt, daughter of John Westervelt and Hannah Blauvelt, on 13 January 1843.¹ Jacob Young Turse died on 14 March 1916.¹

     We have conflicting information regarding Jacob Young Turse's parents. The Blauvelt Genealogy has his father, Lawrence, as son of Jacob Toers and Aaltje Blauvelt, which we believe is correct, but the Ackerman Genealogy has Laurence married to Ann Ackerman, which we believe is incorrect for this line. We show Ann or Hannah Ackerman married to Laurence Tuers, s/o Abraham Toers and Rachel (not verified - please notify us if this record needs to be edited).
     We have Jacob's Bible in our files. It gives the spelling of his name as TURSE, while much of the family continued to use the TUERS form of the name. This same spelling was taken by Aaron TURSE family of Westwood, NJ, although name variants appeared in public records until after 1890.
     Jacob Y. Turse's Bible gives his birth date as 6 July 1822 (which acc. Bergen County Families is the date on the tombstone), a considerable variance from the RDC Paramus Baptism Record.^6,2,5

     Sanford Alexander Turse was born on 26 January 1880 at Westwood, Bergen County, NJ. He married Caroline (Carrie) Lavina Rudlun, daughter of Samuel Rudlun and Harriet L Conklin. Sanford Alexander Turse died on 16 December 1951 at 65 Chestnut St., Park Ridge, NJ, (the home of Hazel Hering.) He was buried on 18 December 1951 in Westwood Cemetery in Westwood, Services at Pascack Reformed Church.

     Sanford Alexander Turse was a house painter. He was a member of Pascack Reformed Church. WWI Draft Card Registration Serial 2125 shows him living at Grove Street, Westwood, NJ, living with his wife, Carrie. Abram's son, Claude is also listed as living at this address at the time of draft registration. He is described as being of medium build, having blue eyes and dark brown hair. He was self-employed as a painter. Later he owned a house on Railroad Avenue in Westwood, NJ until Caroline died. He then lived with his daughter, Hazel Herring in Park Ridge until his death.

     Cornelia Ann Tuthill was born on 19 April 1809.^1,2 She married Abraham J Schoonmaker, son of John A Schoonmaker and Rachel Sammons, on 12 January 1832.^1,3 Cornelia Ann Tuthill died on 31 March 1881 at Morepark, St. Joseph County, MI.^1,4

     Daniel Tuthill Jr. was born on 20 August 1783 at Blooming Grove, Orange County, NY.¹ He married Sarah Hasbrouck, daughter of Joseph Isaac Hasbrouck and Cornelia Schoonmaker, in 1808.¹ Daniel Tuthill Jr. died on 21 July 1862 at Ellenville, NY.¹

     David Tuthill was born on 7 August 1829 at Brooklyn, Kings County, NY. He married Caroline Van Wyck Taylor in 1855 at Brooklyn, NY.

     Henry Tuthill was born in 1580 at Tharston, Norfolk, England. He married (1) Joanna (?) Henry Tuthill married (2) Alice Gooch, daughter of John Gooch and Margaret Rau, on 13 November 1605. Henry Tuthill died in March 1618. He was buried on 26 March 1618 in Tharston.

     Henry Tuttle Tuthill was baptized on 28 June 1612 at Tharston, Norfolk, England. He married Bridget (?) circa 1634 at England. Henry Tuttle Tuthill died in September 1650.

     Henry may have been in Hingham, MA as early as 1635. He had a planting lot at Broad Cove and a house lot in Hingham in 1637. He was made a freeman in March 1638 and was one of 9 selectmen named the same year. He was Hingham constable in 1640. He sold his property in Hingham on 20 Jun 1644, and went to Southold, LI with Rev. Youngs company. His brother John was there before him.

     James Tuthill was born in 1692 at Orient, Long Island, NY, (Most trees on LI-Surnames have place as Orient, some have Oyster Ponds.)¹ He married Rachel Brown, daughter of Jonathan Brown and Elizabeth Salmon, circa 1714 at Brookhaven, Suffolk County, NY. James Tuthill died in 1772 at Orange County, NY, (One unsourced note has death on 20 Nov 1754 in Suffolk Cty; another has year as 1788, no place. See also LI-Surnames: James Tuttle.)

     John Tuthill was born on 14 February 1658/59 at Southold, Suffolk County, NY. He married Mehitable Wells, daughter of William Wells and Mary (?), on 28 May 1690 at Southold, NY. John Tuthill died on 21 November 1754 at Southold, NY.

     The household is listed with 3 white males and 2 white females during the 1686 Southold census. John was known as 'Chalker John' because he frequently carried and used chalk. He was a member of the colonial assembly.^1,2
